We’re searching for a piece of land in Portugal to build a Retreat Centre.
After visiting 20 pieces of land around Portugal, we’ve learned that it’s crucial to ensure the boundaries are where you expect them to be.
Let me show you why it’s important and how to do this all online. Here’s a property we really liked which included this amazing ruin.

Step 1:
Pull up the location on Google maps to get the longitude and latitude coordinates.
Step 2:
Head to dg Territorio, Portugals public online Cadastral resource. Cadastral maps are the maps that show the boundaries of land parcels. Enter the coordinates here to find the specific plot.
Step 3:
Make sure you’ve turned on satellite imagery.
Click the plot to highlight it. Now we can zoom in to check where the official borders are and bam, I can see that the ruin is partially outside the property.

Conclusion:
I’ll cover why the ruin is important for land acquisition in Portugal another time, but now we know that officially, this old building is shared across two plots completely blocking our potential to rebuild here.
