Description of the task:

We are looking for a master plan for the property and a floor plan for the reconstruction of the ruin.

We have already received opinion from the municipality that we cannot expand the construction on the property due to fire risk, so the maximum we can build is restoring the existing ruin.

However, it is allowed to have support buildings.

Below is a description of requirements for each part (Master Plan, Floor Plan) of the task.

The Master Plan

For this part of the task you must use the property linked below and adhere to the legal boundaries and slopes of the property.

The main house needs to remain where it is, it cannot be moved from the location of the existing Ruin.

The master plan needs to consider and include

  • The Main house
  • The Main house should include outdoor space
  • Water storage as this property will get water from a borehole.
  • Solar Panel sufficient to support the activities on the property
  • Waste water treatment, septic tank
  • Gardens for planting of sufficient plants to support the houses needs. This can be quite small, but the location should consider the kinds of soil and earth available around the property. If the proposal is to create new garden beds, then it should be clearly indicated.
  • A large platform with a view for meditation, yoga etc.
  • Ideally the plan should consider some use of the old oven on the property
  • Location of equipment for operations of the solar, energy storage, pumps etc.
  • Equipment storage and workshop: This should be a space away from the main house for storage of equipment needed for works on the property. e.g garden and land maintenance equipment as well as wood working and other tools. This should be large enough not just to store the equipment but also to do works inside, e.g. accommodate a large table saw or similar workshop bench.
  • Location for storage of firewood
  • Small swimming pool
  • Walking paths around the property

The House incl. Floor Plan

The main building, which will be the reconstructed ruin should maintain the existing size as we will not be allowed to expand the size of the accommodation unit beyond the existing ruin’s volume.

The goal of the floor plan should be to split the interior space into 2-3 separate accommodation units. So your task here will be to come up with a floor plan that is comfortable but efficient. Each unit should have its own bathroom and kitchen area. Ideally a private sleeping area (bedroom) would be possible, but this will be up to your skills.

The Plans for the house should include:

  • The floor plan from above including any outdoor space e.g balcony or terrace.
  • Description of the proposed style of construction
  • At least one rendering of the interior view

Importantly, this task should provide realistic outputs considering a budget conscious approach. It is not the goal to spend a lot of money to create something “crazy”. Rather, the goal is to provide a simple, but peaceful and private feeling on the property. Ideally the concept would try to consider traditional styles in keeping with the local (Portuguese) designs, but feel free to be creative in your expression of these traditional styles.
